"Psalm" Fanfare (2007) was written for University of Washington professors Allen Vizzutti and David Kappy. The trumpet etude was written in fulfillment of the composer's Master's Degree topics exam.

"Psalm" Fanfare is loosely based on the form of the first movement of Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms. Techniques of superimposition, interpolation, and rhythmic diminution are used in the etude. The tonal axes of the piece are rooted in the fanfare which gradually shifts from e minor to g major through the technique of slide. Melodic lines are developed non-tonally through an act of interpolation and the content of the melody is proportionally related to the tonal axes.

The title of the piece pays homage to Stravinsky whose work inspired the etude.

Score in C (2005) was composed for Professor Vern Sielert and the Modern Jazz Contingent. The piece was premiered in May 2005 at the Studio Jazz Ensemble Concert in Meany Auditorium at the University of Washington. It begins with two solo instruments in a dissonant mechanical vamp. The vamp turns into a sort of jazz waltz that, as the piece progresses, spins into cacophony.
